"Two years ago, our school was approached because there were no companies that produced these clubs. We had already produced the ramps of boccia, so when we were contacted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, we gladly accepted it," said Higuchi Hiroyuki, the school vice-principal.
For the Paralympic games, the students came up with four different designs for the handles of the clubs, complying with the regulations. They are made of beech wood from Hokkaido and have spherical and cylindrical shapes with different throwing characteristics, taking into account the size of the hands and the throwing styles.
This collaboration between the school and the Paralympics is part of the Tokyo 2020 educational program, aiming to raise awareness of Paralympic sports in schools across Japan.
China and Russia won gold in the men's club throw competitions last Saturday and this Wednesday, respectively. Poland won gold in the women's F32, with the F51 event final to be held on Friday.
