The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accepted all the recommendations offered by the Compliance Review Committee (CRC), Press Officer James Fitzgerald and Norwegian MP Linda Hofstad Helleland confirmed following talks at the Hotel de la Paix in Lausanne on Monday.

The recommendations included a ban from major sporting events in the next four years, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Qatar World Cup in 2022.

Russian athletes who can clear themselves of wrongdoing will be able to compete under a 'neutral flag', which Helleland was highly critical of and demanded a complete blanket ban.

A blanket ban was not one of the CRC's recommendations, meaning the likes of Helleland could only accept the proposals fearing a rejection could lead to an even more "watered down" punishment. "I wanted that complete ban," she said.

Prior to WADA's ruling Russia's Sports Ministry rejected allegations that state authorities were involved in a cover-up, and had offered its assistance to anti-doping bodies.
