German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged to stay in the Iranian nuclear deal, despite it being "not exactly ideal" speaking from the German Parliament in Berlin, Wednesday.

Merkel stressed that this agreement was "endorsed unanimously" and therefore "it isn't fair for the USA to retreat from this deal," adding that she sees staying committed to the deal a better option that retreating from it.

She also added that the problem of the Islamic militancy that "has escalated from a regional conflict to an international one, which cannot be solved without Russia, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Europe."

Merkel's comments follow the decision of US President Donald Trump to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, signed between Iran, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France - and Germany.

Under the deal, known formally as the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), Iran stopped producing enriched uranium and handed over the majority of its stockpile in return for the lifting of sanctions.
