Chinese President Xi Jinping sent his congratulation to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as French president, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced during a press conference in Beijing on Monday.

"Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory message to President Macron on his re-election. As President Xi Jinping stressed in his congratulatory message, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and France has maintained a high level of development over the past five years" Wenbin said.

Regarding the Covid-19 outbreak in China, MOFA Spokesperson emphasised the importance of the controversial zero dynamic covid policy, stressing that all 'regulations are based on scientific and expert opinions.'

Earlier on Sunday, Emmanuel Macron had succeeded in securing a second five-year term in office after obtaining 58.55 per cent of the votes in the second round of the French presidential election over 41.45 per cent for Le Pen, according to the Interior Ministry.
