٠٠:٠٤:٠١Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) executives said the Boeing 737-800 which crashed after take-off in Tehran on Wednesday was in good condition and had an experienced crew, speaking at a news conference several hours after the accident the Boryspil International Airport in Kiev.
"On behalf of the airline team, I offer my deepest condolences to the families of the people who were on board," UIA president Evgeny Dykhne said.
He added that a special commission has been created to investigate the crash, which killed all 168 passengers and nine crew on board.
UIA's flight operations vice president Igor Sosnovsky stated that the plane was operated by a highly skilled crew, and that "knowing that, the chance of the crew’s error is minimal."
The UIA flight PS752 to Ukraine's capital Kiev went down close to Imam Khomeini airport at 06:12 local time (02:42 GMT).
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined, although Ukraine's embassy in Tehran cited engine failure as the possible reason in a now deleted Facebook post.
The embassy later released a new post saying “any statements about the reasons for the crash made before the commission’s decision are unofficial”.
