New York City Police Department (NYPD) tightened security measures ahead of New Year's Eve on Sunday due to a high risk of disruption by protest groups and terrorism threats.

The tightened security measures come amid reports of a planned turnout of pro-Palestinian protests in the city.

"The good news is I feel safe but the bad news is you get settled into a pen," said Michael, a resident who is standing in line.

In preparation for a potential spontaneous protest, NYPD has prepared an anti-terrorist brigade, a patrol with dogs and a flying crew of drones and helicopters.

Like every year, a million people are expected to gather in Times Square to attend the traditional Ball Drop.
