The German Federal Press Secretary Steffen Seibert warned of a 'spiral of escalation' following the United States decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium from Canada, Mexico and the EU in Berlin on Friday.
Seibert described the move as 'one-sided and hostile' and questioned Washington's motive behind the move.
The press spokesperson for the Ministry of Economy, Dr. Beate Baron, added: "We believe this decision to be wrong. We are of opinion that the grounds cited by the US do not serve national security."
