Green Party co-leader Robert Habeck spoke of a "very good start" on the way to forming the next federal government after around two hours of talks. FDP leader Christian Lindner stressed that both parties wanted to work together to find bridges. "The process has started today in a good atmosphere, but it is not finished," he told the press.
Greens Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock said the mandate of the electorate was "to create a new alliance" after Sunday's election.
The parties initiated talks on forming a government with a four-person meeting on Tuesday evening, and the meeting on Friday was the first time the two parties met in a larger group of ten representatives from each side.
Over the weekend, FDP representatives are expected to meet their Christian Democratic Union (CDU)/ Christian Social Union (CSU) and Social Democratic Party (SPD) counterparts.
