"Because you have to be able to say during the festival that we are against the pension reform which also affects cinema professionals, we will have a lot of trouble waiting until the retirement age of 64, as well as people who work in hotels, cafes, restaurants in Cannes,” said Denis Gravouil from the CGT trade union.
Demonstrators were also seen holding banners reading slogans such as 'Retirement, No to reform', 'No to the permanent coup 49.3' and 'Together we are stronger'.
Hospitality workers also held a rally against the pension reform in front of the Carlton Hotel on Friday, a few blocks from the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.
Macron has attempted to regain control of the domestic agenda following huge protests and demonstrations over his pension changes in recent months - including raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.
