Scores of COVID-positive passengers were stranded outside the Guangzhou South Railway Station in China after they were released by the Fangcang hospital. Many of them didn´t manage to board on trains since all the tickets were sold out.

Footage filmed on Wednesday shows people stranded at Guangzhou Railway Station.

The patients were under isolation at the Fangcang hospital before the government recommended their return to their hometowns, allowing the hospital to let them go. The passengers arrived at the stations but were not able to board trains and continue to their destinations, with many having no option but to camp at the station.

The railway station management suggested the positive passengers not stay overnight at the station as temperatures dropped sharply early on Wednesday.

Passengers leaving the city must present a negative nucleic acid test result within 48 hours before entering Guangzhou South Railway Station. In addition, they must undergo a temperature check and present a green health code before entering the station, the Guangzhou Railway Group said in a statement on Tuesday.

Chinese government implemented a zero-COVID policy since the beginning of the pandemic in Wuhan in late 2019. Despite these policies, China recorded its highest ever number of daily infections last week, registering 31,444 new cases.
