Giant dolls were set on fire in Buenos Aires, in the first minutes of Saturday, as part of traditional celebrations as Argentina brought in 2022.

A New Year's day tradition, local merchants crafted dolls after children's characters out of wood, iron and wire. This year a doll was crafted after the popular Squid Game series as well as Shrek.

The ritual is additionally meant to signify good luck in the upcoming year.

"Burning is what happened to us during the year and it is also receiving a new year," said doll maker Santigo Nicolino

The dolls were watched by different people around the city, who took photos with them, before being set on fire. More than 50 dolls were made.

The tradition dates back to 1956, on the corner of 10th and 40th streets, and takes place in different neighborhoods around the city.
