Dozens of protesters created an impromptu vegetable patch outside agrochemical giant Monsanto's Peyrehorade factory near Biarritz on Friday.

Alongside the vegetable patch, the eco-protesters also dumped corn plants and haystacks before raising banners on the factory's outer walls.

"They are teaching our farmers to cultivate on dead soil. The soil is dead because it was killed through pesticides," one protester said.

The blockade was organised in an attempt to denounce the 'impunity enjoyed by multinationals' and the state's inaction.

The action took place days before the G7 summit that will kick-off in Biarritz on Saturday and run from August 24 to August 26. It is thought the wildfires in the Amazon will feature high on the summit's agenda.
