Hundreds of healthcare and social workers took to the streets in Lyon to protest against French President Emmanuel Macron's pension reform and demand better working conditions on Tuesday.

Footage shows protesters marching to the Regional Health Agency (ARS) with banners, flags of French union CGT and chanting.

Nicolas Barnaud, CGT unioan's representative in Lyon, commented on "an institutional mistreatment" due to the lack of staff and resources.

“We are pushing the medical staff and social workers to be mistreating everyday. Mistreating not because they are or they want to be, but because they do not give us the resources to meet the needs of the patients with dignity," said Barnaud.

The march ended with a minute of silence for the French nurse stabbed to death at the University Hospital of Reims in north-eastern France on Monday. The nurse's death highlights rising violence against medical staff in the country.

Macron has attempted to regain control of the domestic agenda following huge protests and demonstrations over his pension changes in recent months - including raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.
