Protesters were seen burning several empty TV boxes in a pile used as barricade as they held a Chilean flag reading "[Chilean President Sebastian] Pinera out, TV is lying." Demonstrators were also rallying for the release of protesters detained at previous gatherings in the capital.
The police water cannon interrupted traffic on Santiago's main avenue during the demonstration, as people burned items and created makeshift barricades on the street.
Seven people were accused of public disorder and detained by the militarised police following the demonstration, according to police.
According to reports, an electronics store was looted during the protest.
The protest follows efforts of President Pinera to halt a bill which would allow citizens to make a second emergency withdrawal of part of their privately held pensions.
Pinera pledged to appeal to the country's Constitutional Court as he deems the bill unconstitutional, while the opposition sees the bill as an adequate response to the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
