Relatives of tennis star Novak Djokovic spoke in Belgrade on Monday regarding his recent detainment at the Australian border, with brother Djordje Djokovic stating that 'Novak is fighting for the liberty of choice.'
Earlier on Monday, the court struck down a decision to terminate Djokovic’s visa on COVID-19 health grounds. The judge also ordered his immediate release from immigration detention.
"We’ve been defending him in every possible way we could because we know he is a truthful and rightful guy," said Djokovic's brother, stressing that the player would 'never do anything' to intentionally violate laws in other countries.
"Novak has been called many names by many different persons and countries around the world, but Novak is only fighting for the liberty of choice and that’s all I’m going to say," Djokovic's brother continued.
Djokovic intends to defend his Australian Open title in Melbourne later this month.
