Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande to the Independence Palace in Minsk, Wednesday ahead of four-party talks aimed at finding a political solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The summit was arranged after leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine discussed the ongoing conflict by telephone on February 8 and after German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande visited Moscow last Friday for crisis talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The key points of the peace talks are expected to include the withdrawal of heavy weaponry, establishment of a demilitarized zone, and the start of dialogue between Kiev and Donbass.
