"Early voting lasted for five days at the voting station that was working. We have to follow the regulations of the host state. If you open any news - governmental or oppositional - of how voting took place, you will see that the picture from voting stations abroad is the same everywhere. We have to follow sanitation-and-epidemiological regulations," said Sokov.
People carrying placards were heard whistling and shouting as the consul returned to the building.
Earlier, the chairlady of the Central Electoral Commission of Belarus announced that more than 54 percent of voters cast their votes.
The incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko is seeking a sixth term in office.
Four other candidates are also running for the presidency: opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, former deputy Anna Kanopatskaya, leader of the “Tell the Truth” civil campaign Andrei Dmitriev and head of the Belarusian Social Democratic Assembly (Hramada) party Sergei Cherachen.
