“Being climate neutral is not social justice and that’s why we are here today. We say that we need a climate policy that is fair and does not put the market first but the people,” climate activist Philip said at the event.
The march was called by the alliance 'Justice Now!' and gathered around 700 people, ending in front of the German chancellery in Berlin Moabit.
While a new government has not been formed yet, the 'traffic light' coalition comprising the Greens, the SPD and the market-liberal FDP expect to appoint the install the new chancellor by early December.
The parties have so far agreed upon climate goals being set in place for the new government but also mentioned no new forms of taxation or a departure from the so-called debt brake would be implemented as demanded by the FDP, making allocating funds and investment difficult for large scale projects.
