Hundreds of demonstrators took Lyon's streets on Saturday, to protest against President Emmanuel Macron's policies, ahead of the second round of the French presidential elections.

Demonstrators could be seen chanting anti-Macron slogans and the Yellow Vests anthem while marching from the iconic Place Bellecour to the justice court in the Vieux Lyon.

"I fear that ( Macron will win the election) but I think that it can end up in protests in the street as 70 per cent of the French people do not want him and did not vote for him in the first round of the election,” one protester said.

The protest comes a day before French voters head to the polls for the second round of the presidential election, where incumbent President Macron meets nationalist candidate Marine Le Pen in the runoff for the presidency.

Macron topped the first round of the French presidential elections with 27.6 per cent of the vote, ahead of Le Pen’s 23.4 per cent on 10 April.
