Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard gave a blow-by-blow account of Evo Morales escape from Bolivia at a press conference in Mexico City on Tuesday, after the Bolivia leader was granted political asylum.

Ebrard explained that President Lopez Obrador gave the order to send “an aircraft of our Air Force” to Bolivia to pick Evo Morales, although they faced different legal issues with the procedures to fly over the airspace of several countries, calling it “a journey through different places and political decisions."

Asked if the political asylum granted to Morales will provoke diplomatic tensions between Mexico and the US, Ebrard answered that the relationship between the two countries is going through a good moment and he does not expect “any claim on the position that Mexico has taken on this asylum” .

The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales is expected to arrive in Mexico in the next few hours, after several countries in South America denied the petition of the Mexican plane to fly over their airspace.
