UK Prime Minister Theresa May told Russian President Vladimir Putin that “there cannot be a normalisation of our bilateral relationship until Russia stops the irresponsible and destabilising activity,” according to Downing Street. May and Putin met at the G20 Summit in Osaka on Friday.

According to the Russian president’s spokesperson, Putin and May were expected to discuss “sensitive questions.”

Russia-UK bilateral relations have been frosty since Russia’s alleged poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia with nerve agent novichok last year. This is the first time the two leaders have met since then.

Leaders of 19 of the most influential countries in the world and the European Union are meeting in Osaka on Friday and Saturday for the 14th Group of 20 summit to discuss climate change, free trade, and economic inequalities among other issues.
