A Ukrainian passenger jet carrying 176 people crashed soon after taking off from Tehran's Imam Khomeni Airport en route to Kiev on Wednesday.
There were no survivors.
Footage from the crash site showed security forces and medics securing the area and moving the bodies of the victims.
Most of the victims were Iranians and Canadians with other passengers holding Ukrainian, Afghan, Swedish, British and German passports.
Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) confirmed the plane was a Boeing 737-800 built in 2016 and suspended all flights to Tehran indefinitely. A statement sent its "deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the air crash."
Plane manufacturer Boeing sent their "heartfelt thoughts" to victims and their friends and families and offered to help "in any way needed."
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined, although the Ukrainian embassy in Tehran believes it was due to engine failure and has ruled out any link to terrorism.
