Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky kicked off the “Normandy Four” talks with a roundtable meeting in Paris on Monday.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Russian leader held bilateral and joint meetings with Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Normandy Four was created in July 2014 to secure a peaceful settlement to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany first discussed the settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine during the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy. Since then, many telephone conversations and summits have taken place between the leaders of the four countries, and foreign ministers have also had contacts.
