Interim President of Bolivia Jeanine Anez announced on Friday her candidacy for the presidency, for the next general elections called for on May 3.
"Tonight I want to address the Bolivian families to announce that I have made the decision to run as a candidate in the national elections," said Anez at a gathering of her political party Democratas (Democrats) at the Real Plaza Hotel in La Paz.
Jeanine Anez proclaimed herself interim president after former President Evo Morales resigned and left the country under pressure from the armed forces amid protests and disagreement over a disputed election result.
Anez will compete against the MAS party candidate of Evo Morales, as well as other opposition leaders.
