Among many issues, Erdogan focused on the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the country’s embassy in Turkey last October. He said many aspects of the incident are still unclear.
“This is a Saudi citizen but the incident took place in our country. They want the alleged perpetrators to be sent to Saudi Arabia for trial. But why? There is a fundamental pillar of law which propagates that perpetrators can be tried wherever the crime took place," said Erdogan.
Erdogan also commented on the recent death of former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi in court.
“Nothing was done in order to save him. The press-releases of the coup plotters are far from satisfying our conscience. We expected the G20 leaders to have been more vocal in the face of the martyrdom of Mohamed Morsi and own up to democracy and human values,” said Erdogan.
