Thousands of people converged outside the former World Trade Center (WTC) in New York City, Sunday, to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 on the 15th anniversary of the attacks.
US Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were among the attendees.
New York resident Nancy Shah, who laid flowers at the memorial reflected, "it doesn’t feel like it was 15 years ago. I mean you still feel that many emotions."
Another mourner Manuel John Cortez, who came to the site to pay his respects to his shipmates who had lost their lives in the attacks, said "unity played a great part especially after 9/11. The country came together as a whole, whatever differences individual groups may have had. As Americans, we all came together."
The area around the WTC was cordoned off by the city police, allowing the memorial site to be accessed only by guests invited to the ceremony.
