An unsanctioned rally against partial military mobilisation took place in Moscow on Saturday.

The footage shows people gathering near the Chistye Prudy metro station in the central city. Some of them have been detained.

No official information on the number of detainees has been reported at the time of publication.

Earlier, the Moscow prosecutor's office had warned of 'responsibility for calls and participation in unauthorised mass events'.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilisation during his speech on Wednesday. According to the decree, the mobilisation started on September 21.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
