Ahrweiler residents shared views on their living situations two and a half months after the catastrophic floods in western Germany.

“Many did get back electricity, but not everyone, and not gas, though winter is coming, and it’s autumn now and people can really heat their places,” said Anja, one of local residents.

“There are more tears in my eyes than there is water in Ahr river”, said Ahr local Karl Heinz, describing his home town.

Climate is also to blame for deadly hight waters added Heinz, saying “ I believe that the climate change contributed to what happened here, and it can happen again in the next years.”

After the high waters of Ahr destroyed bridges and infrastructure of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler there were temporary bridges constructed and water supply arranged, though it’s is still not clear when gas and electricity will be repaired in the worst affected areas.
