Members of the German 'traffic light' coalition parties, who are negotiating to form a new government, aim to wrap up the talks in the coming week, stated participants of the talks in Berlin, on Tuesday, adding that a new chancellor could be elected as early as in the first week of December.

Speaking at a press conference, SPD Secretary-General Lars Klingbeil said, "We are ambitioned, and we want the chancellor to be elected in the week after Nicolaus [German tradition celebrated on 6 December], so that the new government can start its work straight away,' with Green party representative Michael Kellner adding "We are aiming to agree on a coalition agreement within the next week."

Germany's Social Democrats (SPD), the Green Party and the Free Democrats (FDP) have been in coalition talks to form a new government since October 21. If conducted successfully, the new German government will consist of members from all three parties.
