Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov told the UN General Assembly that his country is "ready to continue the negotiation process" with Tajikistan in a "civilised and lawful manner, speaking in New York on Tuesday.
According to Zhaparov, "taking into account that our trust has been weakened by the recent lawless actions of our neighbour, we are ready to continue negotiations and welcome mediation efforts by international organisations including the UN, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.”
"The Kyrgyz side does not claim foreign land, nor does it intend to give a centimetre of its land to anyone," the head of state said. "We are always ready for negotiations," the president reiterated.
The Kyrgyz president also said some 240,000 civilians had been evacuated from border settlements and were being provided with necessary assistance.
Last week there were violent clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, with some 100 people reportedly killed on both sides during fighting. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the authorities of both countries to engage in dialogue to reach a ceasefire.
