Demonstrations in Algeria began in February as the 82-year-old Abdelaziz Bouteflika was expected to announce he would run for a fifth term in office. He was forced to resign on April, 2. A week later, parliament appointed Abdelkader Bensalah the interim president for the next three months.
A new presidential election is scheduled to take place in Algeria in July.
