"It is a big honor for me to receive an honorary doctorate degree from Saint Petersburg State University," Xi said in a ceremony also attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I would like to say thank you to the university’s Academic Council for the decision and to congratulate Chairman of the Chinese People’s Republic Xi Jinping on receiving honorary doctorate degree from Saint Petersburg State University," said Putin, who himself was awarded with honorary doctorate from Tsinghua University in during his April visit to China.
The Chinese leader is on a three-day visit to Russia focussed on deepening the partnership between the two countries. On Friday he will take part on the plenary session of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.
