٠٠:٠٤:١٠Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Osaka on Thursday, on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
Both leaders emphasised the importance of developing relations between both countries. Abe said that both states should cooperate instead of compete.
"It's the turning point of an era in Japan, so by going hand in hand with the head of state, Mr. Xi Jinping, I wish to open up a new era between China and Japan," he stated.
Xi Jinping said, "In the last couple of years, we have maintained close communication and have guided the improvement and development of China—Japan relations. The relations between both countries has a new appearance, which it did not have for a few years."
"This year is the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China while Japan enters the Era of Reiwa. China—Japan relations stand at a new starting point. I would like to work with Mr. Premier to enhance the high-level strategic leadership, and build China—Japan relations in correspondence with the new era," he added.
Leaders of 19 of the most influential countries in the world and the European Union will meet in Osaka on Friday and Saturday for the 14th G20 summit to discuss climate change, free trade, and economic inequalities among other issues.
