Spokesperson of the Beijing 2022 Olympics Yan Jiarong branched out to comment on political issues including the status of Taiwan and the Uyghurs, at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Still touting the official policy “against politicisation of sports at the Winter Olympics," Yan announced, however, that “there is only one China in the world. Taiwan is an integral part of China.”

Commenting on forced labour allegations concerning the Uyghur minority in Xinjiang, Yan claimed that these were ‘lies’ that had been "fabricated by forces with ulterior motives."

The IOC spokesperson Mark Adams gave more details on the issue of Olympic clothing procurement, stressing “none of the production took place in Xinjiang, nor did any of the input or raw materials come from that region.”
