Thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the Austrian Federal Chancellery in Vienna on Saturday following the resignation of the country's Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache.

Strache, who is also the leader of the Freedom Party (FPO), was recorded on video allegedly accepting support in the elections from a woman who claimed to have Russian ties in return for public contracts.

Some of those present were simply interested in the situation rocking the country, as it is something 'the Republic has not seen yet'.

Others, however, took aim at the FPO's handling of its duties.

A snap election was also announced by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz in the wake of the scandal.
