Police dispersed dozens of protesters who gathered at the Yuen Long shopping centre in Hong Kong on Thursday. The monthly demonstration marked the anniversary of the 2019 Yuen Long attack in which a mob attacked civilians and anti-government protesters in July last year.

Police can be seen cordoning off some areas of the shopping mall after protesters chanted slogans, displayed banners and sang the unofficial anthem of anti-government protests.

Last year Hong Kong saw the largest protest movement in its history, which started with opposition to the now-scrapped bill to allow extraditions to mainland China.

The demonstrations united activists calling for more autonomy and an investigation into alleged police brutality. Protests were put on hold in the beginning of the year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
