Dozens of supporters of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny gathered in Geneva on Tuesday, to protest against his imprisonment, a day before Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit for his summit with US President Joe Biden.

"We're here today because Alexei Navalny is a symbol of fighting back, symbol of democratic opposition, and though not everyone is his supporter or follower, he still represents a very big part of democracy oriented society, so we're here for him," one of the organisers, Maria, stressed.

A protester, Peter Pavelets, showed his newly made tattoo depicting Navalny, showing a heart sign with his hand.

"I've been a human rights supporter and since I've known he was put in the prison and poisoned, since I've seen all the videos by Bellingcat, I was very very impressed and I thought, wow, this guy needs support," Pavelets stressed.

"I'm here today because I want every political prisoners in Russia to be set free, and I'm trying to attract Putin's attention, so that he would understand that it is a big problem that worries many people, and free them all," said Alisa, another protester.

Navalny is currently in jail serving a two-year and eight-month jail term for breaching the conditions of a suspended sentence handed to him in 2014.
