Commenting on the FDP's +10 percent electoral performance, Wissing described the result as an 'incredible outcome.' Preliminary results indicate Christian Lindner's party have secured 11.50 percent of the vote putting it in fourth place overall and making it a viable party for any future coalition talks.
"That's a mandate: Germany wants a government from the centre, it is a clear refusal of red-red-green," Wissing said.
Wissing ruled out any immediate discussion of a possible coalition deal. "We just speak of a government that renews the markets, that keeps the brakes on the debts and that really cares about the strength of the country. We will now see how the numbers will precisely develop, once we'll have the outcome we will analyse it tomorrow. This is a good day for our country," he said.
According to preliminary results, the SPD secured 25.70 percent of the vote placing them ahead of the CDU which managed 24.10 percent and the Greens - who took 14.80 percent.
