Teacher Li Qian and her students used close to 1200 Rubik's cubes to piece together a giant panda-like ‘Bing Dwen Dwen’, the mascot of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, at the Daobei primary school in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, on Saturday.

The students put together the parts they were responsible for in groups, and almost three hours later, a giant Rubik's cube Bing Dwen Dwen pattern was completed.

"There is nothing (no pattern) that the Rubik's cube can’t make, so we often organize some similar activities like this. Since the kids all love Bing Dwen Dwen so much, we decided to make a giant Bing Dwen Dwen pattern together,” explained Li.

Invented by Hungarian architect Erno Rubik in 1974, the Rubik’s cube is a popular 3-D combination puzzle.

According to local reports, Merchandise featuring the popular Bing Dwen Dwen has been very popular in China, with many shops in the capital having sold-out stock shortly after the start of the Olympics.

The mascot was first unveiled in September 2019 and is the creation of Cao Xue and his design team.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will come to an end on Sunday, with an official closing ceremony.
