A crisis 'consultation bus' has arrived to offer support to victims of last summer's catastrophic flooding in the west German town of Schuld, as seen on Thursday.

On the occasion of Christmas, activities for children have been added to the consultation services, which include advice on sources of employment as well as a listening ear, and advice on access to mental health resources.

”When the drying machines were going around, people found time to get into thinking, they went out from this doing attitude and assumed a reflective one. That’s when this curse came up again, the psychological load surfaced, and that is also a very big topic,” said Roswitha Stockhorst, an employee at the Ahrweiler district administration.

The streets of the Rhineland-Palatinate town still bear the scars of the deadly inundation with heavy damage to businesses and homes still evident. The area remains strewn with mud as recovery work continues to make the area once again habitable.
