Member of the Belarusian opposition’s Coordination Council, Maria Kolesnikova, has been placed under arrest in a pre-trial detention centre in Minsk. Kolesnikova's lawyer, Lyudmila Kazak, spoke about her client's condition after meeting with her on Wednesday, saying “she feels relatively well, she has already had a little rest.”

Kazak also said that Kolesnikova is just a "suspect" and has been charged under Article 361, Part 3. The penalties for this section of Article 361 can include a prison term of between two to five years, and related to trying to change Belarus' consitution.

Kolesnikova’s father, Alexander Kolesnikov, also spoke to media from outside the centre on Wednesday.

"I am the father of Maria Kolesnikova, who was arrested today. This was reported to me by the investigator under article 361, Part 3 as he mentioned and advised me to bring the first care package [to her] today. I just brought my first care package, and I want to thank Maria Kolesnikova's friends and colleagues who helped me throughout the day," Kolesnikov said.

Kolesnikov also said that he had visited his daughter’s apartment after the alleged detention of Coordination Council members from the place earlier.

“The door was closed, unfortunately, I didn't have a key… the apartment was not sealed… the door was locked with the upper lock, the lower one was broken,” he said.

The Border Committee of Belarus has reported that Maria Kolesnikova was detained for violating the border crossing procedure with Ukraine, with Ukraine's Deputy Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko saying that Kolesnikova did not have the right documents to leave Belarus.

Meanwhile, Kolosnikova's associate Pavel Latushko has claimed that she was forced to leave Belarus, and that she tore up her passport at the border.
