Hungarian Olympic athletes and medal winners Shaoang Liu and Shaolin Sandor Liu were welcomed by fans at a ceremony in Budapest on Friday.

The short-track speed skating heroes met their supporters and posed for photos with their medals.

23-year-old Shaoang Liu led throughout the men's 500 metre event to win Hungary’s first ever individual gold medal at a Winter Olympics, as well as the country's first gold medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Born in Budapest to a Hungarian mother and a Chinese father, Liu brothers speak fluent Mandarin. The brothers' Chinese heritage has brought them closer to millions of Chinese Olympic fans.

"I think it was a lifetime opportunity to race in Beijing, race in the Olympics, compete in the Olympics, being half Chinese. We felt really lucky, and it was a really good competition," said Shaolin Sandor Liu.

Shaolin Sandor Liu, who was disqualified in the final of the men’s 1,000 metre event, won bronze in the 2,000 metre mixed relay.
