Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that ‘foreign interference’ in the convoy movement was her ‘biggest concern’ during a panel event at the Munich Security Conference on Friday.

Joly noted that while some Canadians have “gone and protested in a peaceful manner”, some elements “within the truckers convoy” are “extremely preoccupying,” with the Minister citing cases of criminal charges at the Coutts border point.

“I won't point out somebody in particular, but we know that there is foreign interference, and that's why also, we decided to go ahead and use for the first time in our country the Emergencies Act,” explained Joly.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday announced that the Emergencies Act would be invoked to deal with the ongoing protest blockades that have emerged as part of the ‘freedom convoy’ protest movement.

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist, Bill Gates, also took part in the panel which dealt with the subject of how to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

When asked about his opinion of masks, Gates replied: "Well, that's interesting. You know, what is the downside of wearing the mask? I mean, it's got to be tough. You know, you've to wear pants. I mean, this is tough stuff. These societies are so cruel. Why do they make you wear pants? I'm trying to figure it out."

"We're very glad you have yours on,” responded panel moderator Hadley Gamble.

The Munich Security Conference started on Friday and is set to end on Sunday, February 20.
