Hundreds of supporters and representatives of the opposition Shor party rallied outside the Constitutional Court in Chisinau, as the government's request to liquidate the political organisation began being considered on Monday.

Footage features rally participants holding anti-government placards and signs while chanting: 'Down with dictatorship!', 'Down with Maia Sandu!', and 'We are the people!', among others. The police officers could be seen observing the event.

One of the protesters said she was rallying for Moldovan citizens' better living conditions.

"[We want] to have cheaper gas, to have opportunities, so that people do not go abroad but stay here, so that our children have a future. For justice, in general!" the woman said.

According to the party's press service, more than a thousand protesters took part in the rally, with about a hundred more party supporters in minibuses stopped by police.

At the time of publication, there was no official information from the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs on the detentions.

On 10 May, the Moldovan Constitutional Court, at the Government's request, began a constitutional review of the activities of the Shor party, which was accused of acting 'in contradiction to the principles of the rule of law and threatening the sovereignty and independence of the republic'.

For its part, the defence said that the accusation was groundless because the party did not violate the constitution and 'acts in accordance with the Moldovan legislation'.

In November 2022, the Moldovan government also argued for the liquidation of the opposition party in connection with the rallies, but the Moldovan Constitutional Court did not accept the request to liquidate the political organisation.
