Director of BRICS Institute in New Delhi Binod Singh Ajatshatru claimed that Americans were 'isolating themselves' by imposing sanctions on other countries, speaking on the sidelines of the 27th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Saturday.

"Since Americans are using the sanction, everyone is scared. Today Russia is sanctioned, now they're sanctioning China, and they have early sanctioned Iran. So instead of... They were trying to isolate us, but they're isolating themselves," Ajatshatru said.

Meanwhile, head of the Russian House in the Central African Republic Dmitri Syty noted that a big number of forum participants came from Africa, expecting to establish a 'mutually beneficial partnership' with Moscow.

"We see that African countries are increasingly looking towards Russia. Russia is a new partnership opportunity for African countries, an opportunity to get rid of Western monopolies and become part of a multipolar world," he said.

SPIEF 2024 took place in Saint Petersburg from June 5-8. Since its inception in 1997, the forum has served as a platform for international dialogue on economic matters, with the patronage and participation of the Russian Federation's president since 2005.

According to Russian presidential adviser Anton Kobyakov, over 21,000 people from 139 countries attended the forum this year.
