03:31Russian cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov showed some of the unique gadgets he uses on a daily basis to make life on the International Space Station (ISS) that little bit easier.
Exclusive footage taken on Monday shows Borisov demonstrating special socks with silicone pads and felt boots (Russian 'valenki') with the same padding to help with grip and balance.
"These are protective socks. At first glance it looks like ordinary socks, but actually they are not; look carefully, they have special silicone overlays on the upper side of the foot - it's here - which, first of all, protect the upper surface of the foot from strain and blisters, and second, allow you to cling to the handrails very well, like a hook, with your foot," the cosmonaut said.
He added that the boots in particular are also great for keeping tea or food nice and hot!
Borivsov also showed off his multitool, headlamp and carabiner. The latter are traditionally used by rock climbers but are also useful in zero gravity to move things around - by attaching them to your belt - when your hands are busy trying to keep yourself going in the right direction.
He arrived at the ISS aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft with the Crew-7 expedition on August 27. The crew also included NASA astronaut and Crew-7 commander Jasmin Moghbeli, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa.
Borisov is the third Russian cosmonaut to travel to the ISS aboard a SpaceX rocket, after Anna Kikina and Andrey Fedyaev, who arrived at the station in October 2022 and March 2023 respectively.
