Russian citizens living in the Moldovan cities of Tiraspol, Bender and Chisinau took part in voting in the Russian presidential election on Sunday.

The footage shows voters queuing up outside polling stations, registering and putting their ballots in the ballot box.

"We believe in Russia, we believe in Transnistria, we believe in stability, and this requires our participation in the election," said one resident of Tiraspol.

Another in Chisinau added that it was important to vote, saying that the electoral process was there for all to see.

"All over the world there is a perception that somebody is forced, that somebody is under some kind of pressure to vote. That's not true. That's why, as you can see here, people are not standing at gunpoint," the woman said.

According to the Russian Central Election Commission, at time of publication, the overall turnout for the presidential election, including remote voting, was more than 71.24 percent.

Russia's presidential election takes place over three days on March 15-17, with early voting between February 25 and March 14.
