On New Year's Eve, Muscovites and tourists visiting the Russian capital spoke about what dishes they would be having on their table on New Year's, and also shared their family traditions and plans for the holidays.

"Naturally, there will be dressed herring (Russian layered salad), caviar sandwiches - how can you do without it? We'll have a Christmas tree with lights, candles and presents under the little tree," said Evgenia.

According to Veronika, on the first day of the New Year she and her relatives traditionally visit a cinema in the centre of Moscow.

"We have a New Year's tradition: on January 1, we go to the Khudozhestvenny Cinema to watch some new film, and this time we'll do just that," said the woman.

Sergei said he would be celebrating the New Year with his close ones.

"Before the clock strikes midnight, and after that we come together with our families and celebrate all together," added his companion Anastasia.
