Around 100 performers dressed in Father Frost outfits were seen dancing on the Moscow Metro on Tuesday, bringing a little festive flash-mob spirit to commuters.

Footage shows the dancers decked out in red coats and hats, performing on the platform, riding on the train and waving to passengers.

The Moscow Transport Department's press office reported that Father Frosts travelled along five metro lines of the Moscow underground.

"This year we have drawn up a new route and covered more Metro lines. We hope that our childhood favourite New Year characters made passengers enjoy a pleasant feeling of the approaching holiday," stated head of the transport department Maxim Liksutov.

Passengers were also given 15,000 Christmas tree toys as New Year gifts.

Russian Orthodox Christmas takes place on January 7. Traditionally, Ded Moroz - or Father Frost, similar to Santa Claus - brings gifts to children on New Year's Eve, placing them under the New Year tree.
