Residents and visitors to St. Petersburg revealed their New Year's Eve plans and shared their expectations for 2024, in footage taken on Monday

Zoya, a tourist from Vologda, said she celebrated with a group of friends.

"Everything went great, we celebrated the New Year with a great mood, we danced, sang songs, sat at the table, toasting each other. Everything is terrific!" she shared.

Footage also shows people walking along the decorated streets of the city and buying souvenirs at a Christmas fair, as well as children riding a merry-go-round.

Local Olga said she and her two children celebrated by having a festive dinner and watching a cartoon film together, adding that she was already planning a holiday.

"I wished for a trip for this year, I really want to go to the sea in the summer. And peaceful skies above, of course," she continued.

Anton, a tourist from the Altai Republic, said he welcomed 2024 on Palace Square in the company of 'compatriots and like-minded people'.

"The first thing we expect from the New Year is that peace will come, and our guys carrying out tasks [on the front line of the Ukraine conflict] today will fulfil them and complete them, and that everyone, whose relatives and loved ones are waiting back home, will return alive and healthy," he said.

The New Year's holidays in Russia last 10 days, from December 30, 2023, to January 8, 2024.
